A List of Quick Confidence Boosters

Having confidence in yourself improves your life in countless ways. Not only does it make you feel like you can do pretty much anything, but it also changes the way other people treat you.

A lack of self-confidence, on the other hand, can ruin your life. If you don’t have the confidence to take chances, and you’re filled with fear and insecurities, it’ll stop you from having new experiences, meeting new people, and even pursuing your dreams.

So I challenge you to work on your confidence so that your life won’t be filled with regret.

Here’s a quick list of things to do to boost your confidence:

Think positive thoughts. Avoid negative thoughts by turning them into positives – see lessons instead of mistakes, opportunities instead of failure. Moreover, remind yourself what’s good in your life.

Dress nicely. The way you dress has a significant influence on your confidence level. Don’t you feel a lot more confident in a neat blazer and your fanciest shoes than you do in your old jeans and track shoes?

Smile. Smiling can improve your mood and helps your body deal with stress more effectively. Plus, people who smile often are more likeable.

➳ Do things that scare you. To become confident and fearless, you have to do the things that scare you. I’m not saying you should climb Mount Everest if you’re afraid of heights; start small. Go on a short hike on a mountain in your area with a group of friends, for example.

Put on a few spritzes of your favourite perfume. According to science, wearing fragrance can truly make you feel more confident.

Recite affirmations/mantras. A positive affirmation is a “statement that programmes the mind to improve self-esteem, self-belief and confidence”; while a mantra is a chant that “sets an intention to create positive action in your life”.

Be principled. Know your principles and live them.

Stand tall. Stand up straight; push your shoulders back; and hold your head high.

➳ F*ck what they think. A friend once told me that this the golden rule in life. And the more I thought about it, the more I agreed. Like, seriously, what others think about you is none of your business. Let them talk and own your best life, in spite of them.

Set (small) goals and achieve them. Setting goals for yourself will give you a sense of purpose. Achieving them will make you feel accomplished.

Exercise. Working out regularly will boost your confidence as well as your health. As you go along, you will start to see results, which will make you feel great about yourself.

➳ Clear your desk. By decluttering your desk of distractions, you’ll be more focused, resulting in an instant confidence boost.
